Today there are many asthma treatment options that can work for people with a variety of symptoms and in many different situations.

CINQAIR is used with other treatments

CINQAIR is designed for people who have severe asthma. It is not a standalone asthma treatment and is instead used as an add-on treatment. It is only designed for adults 18 years or older. Those who are likely to get the best benefit are those who have high eosinophil levels and who have asthma that is not well controlled. People in those situations can find their breathing improves and their severe asthma attacks are prevented.

The science behind CINQAIR

Eosinophils are special white blood cells that are capable of inflaming the lungs and airways. When they present at elevated levels, they can lead to and contribute to asthma attacks. The way CINQAIR works is by inhibiting interleukin 5, which is a key mediator in activating eosinophil.

When your eosinophil activation is controlled, CINQAIR helps to improve breathing. It can also be used to help prevent serious asthma attacks. However, it is designed for this specific use and is not recommend to treat other issues that are caused by eosinophils.

The CINQAIR treatment process

Those who are treated with CINQAIR get a monthly treatment through IV infusion. Your asthma doctor uses a needle through your vein to get the medicine in you. The total dosage takes between 20 minutes and 50 minutes. Since this is an add-on treatment, it will not replace whatever medications you are currently on and it will not be helpful in treating sudden breathing issues.

When you work with Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology Medical Group, we will go over all your asthma medications to ensure you are on the right plan. We will let you know how CINQAIR works within your current treatment plan. Unless told otherwise by your doctor, you should continue to take your asthma medicines and to use your emergency inhaler.

CINQAIR is approved by the FDA

One of the first questions our patients often ask us is if CINQAIR is safe. It is indeed approved by the FDA for adults 18 and older. It is approved specifically for treating severe eosinophilic asthma. There are potential side effects, the most common of which is throat pain. However, there is the potential for more serious side effects too.

If you are interested in finding out if CINQAIR is the right treatment for you then we recommend contacting Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology Medical Group at 805-658-9500 right away. We can assess your asthma treatment protocol and provide a comprehensive plan.
