Schedule Your Annual Allergy Visit for 2016

For the best possible care, allergy sufferers should visit their allergy doctor every year.

Schedule Your Annual Allergy Visit for 2016The beginning of a new year is always a busy and exciting time. You may be full of plans for new projects you want to do in 2016, or for goals you want to achieve. However, it’s also important to dedicate time to the more mundane aspects of preparing for the coming year. This includes scheduling all your routine annual visits to the dentist, GP, eye doctor, and more.

Don’t forget to include your allergist on this list! Even if you do not currently have any complaints, if you have been diagnosed with an allergy and are on allergy medication, it is highly recommended that you schedule an annual visit to your allergy doctor. Here’s why:

Your Needs Can Change: It is not at all unusual for allergy symptoms to abate as you grow older. This may mean that your medications are now excessive or even unnecessary. Since it is not a good idea to be over-medicated, you will definitely want to check in with your allergy doctor to see about stepping down your medications. You will also want to visit the allergy doctor if you have started any new medications for other health problems, to make sure you are not risking any dangerous or unpleasant interactions.

You May Need a New Diagnosis: If your allergy symptoms have started to change for the worse, this could indicate that you are developing a new condition that will require different treatment. For example, if you are starting to have coughing or difficulty breathing along with your regular hay fever symptoms, you may now need treatment for allergic asthma.

We May Have New Treatment Options: Another reason to visit your allergy doctor regularly is so that you can take advantage of any new medications or treatment options that may be available. At Allergy, Asthma, & Immunology Medical Group, we always wait for the endorsement of the AAAAI before recommending any new treatments to our patients.

You Want to Be Prepared for Allergy Season: One final reason to schedule your annual allergy visit early in 2016 is that you want to be prepared for spring allergy season. Obviously this is important if you have hay fever, but spring allergy season can also affect allergic asthma sufferers as well.
