What is XOLAIR and is it Safe for Getting Rid of Hives or Allergic Asthma? If you’ve suffered from hives or allergic asthma then you’ve likely tried anything you could think of to find relief and you’d likely try anything you thought might help. While the professionals at Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology Medical Group do want you to find relief, your safety is even more important to us. That’s why we have carefully considered the safety of XOLAIR injections before offering them to our patients. Read on to learn what we think about them and how they might help you.

XOLAIR are great for specific needs

XOLAIR injections can help treat your hives or allergic asthma but they’re not the first treatment we’d generally offer. However, for patients who have had hives fore upwards of six weeks and haven’t been helped by antihistamines, or for those of our patients who have severe allergic asthma that’s made worse by airborne allergies, these injections can bring incredible relief. At Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology Medical Group, we are happy to report that the FDA has approved this treatment and that we are able to provide it to you.

How exactly does this treatment work?

You may know that people who have allergies are producing too much of a protein antibody known as IgE. When you have too much of this protein, allergy symptoms are the result. What XOLAIR does is get into the bloodstream and bond with this IgE protein. The protein is then essentially occupied, which means it doesn’t attack your immune system and allergic reactions can be prevented or lessened.

How can I get started with treatment?

Once you see an allergist at Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology Medical Group and we decide that you’re a great candidate for this treatment, then we can start your injections immediately in our offices. We’ll record your weight and do a blood test to make sure we give you the right dosage. Depending on your situation, you may get injections in your arm every two weeks or every four weeks.

Once a few months have gone by, you’ll see that your allergic symptoms are significantly reduced. To keep the treatment working, you will need to continue getting injections. If you stop getting them, then the effects of the injections will wear off as quickly as six months or in as long as a year. However, as long as you keep getting your injections, they’ll keep working.

How save is this therapy?

The FDA looked at clinical studies and confirmed that XOLAIR is safe to be used. That said, as with any medical treatment, there are risks. For example, there’s an extremely small chance of severe allergic reaction or even anaphylaxis. That’s why we always recommend that you come to a skilled allergist – not your general practitioner. We know what signs to look out for and can provide immediate treatment in the very unlikely event that you had a negative reaction.

If you’re ready to say goodbye to hives and allergic asthma then XOLAIR injections may be the right choice for you. Your next step is to call Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology Medical Group at 805-658-9500 to make an appointment. We look forward to helping you!
