Pulmonary Function Testing May Be the Answer to Your Asthma Symptoms

Any person who experiences the difficulties of uncontrolled asthma know how frightening, aggravating, and painful it can be. In the past, doctors could offer an inhaler and not do much more. Today, clinics like Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology Medical Group that specialize in these situations can find out what the cause is and how to treat individual cases of asthma. If you aren’t a person who can count on breathing normally all the time, then a pulmonary function test may be the best option for you. Read on to learn more and then reach out to us at 805-658-9500.

It’s not just asthma sufferers who can benefit from pulmonary function testing

The reality is that there are many other conditions that can make it difficult to breath normally. From immune deficiency to allergies, no matter what the cause is, you can count on Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology Medical Group to do every test and to take every step necessary to provide you with the answers to what the causes are of your disorder and how to treat them.

Which type of test is best for your needs?

There are several types of pulmonary function tests. The one we’ve found people are most likely to know about are spirometry tests. These are performed in an allergist’s office and have the benefit for being both easy to do and easy to interpret. The process is simple: You breathe into a mouthpiece. The spirometer then records how much air goes into your lungs and comes at. It also notes the speed at which the air is moving.

Though the spirometer may be the most common type of pulmonary function test, it’s not the only one. Another option is the lung volume measure test. We may use a diffusion capacity test if we need to see how much air your lungs are capable of holding and / or how effective your lungs are at moving oxygen into your bloodstream.

We’ll provide a comprehensive treatment plan

Once we’ve looked at the results of your tests, we can work on finding the best treatment plan for you. It all depends on your level of impairment and what other medications you’re taking. We do want you to get on a treatment that works for you, but not if it means a bad reaction with your current medications. Regardless of the specific treatment plan we suggest, you can count on our allergists to offer the best treatment possible.

But our work doesn’t stop there! We also provide detailed monitoring to see how effective each treatment is. The end goal is to find the perfect balance that helps improve your quality of life. We will do the tests necessary to find out where you’re at, we will provide the best treatment options we know, and then we will make sure it’s working.

If you’re ready to say goodbye to your breathing issues then you’re ready to contact Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology Medical Group at 805-658-9500. We look forward to helping you through to the next stage of your life.
